HOW TO START PREPPING- PART 1

For many of us out there we have to be able to judge our current situation and what you can put forward into your new “hobby” I call it my hobby because I have so few and it allows me to redistribute some income into my new found fun. For me it was 2011, I just came back into town the night before from Canada and our Honeymoon. So hours later we just crossed the border back into the US. The news was on all day from the events and I needed to get gas immediately. I knew at that moment that I was not prepared. As life goes on, and a week or two go forward we get settled back into our daily rituals and we forget. That’s what I did. I forgot and continued forward. Hurrican IKE came through the US and the winds drilled Ohio. This was 11 years later and we were without power for 12 days. We still made it through but again I quit.

How many more global incidents will happen and you still will not begin. Well not today, today is Prepping 101 well kind of.

To Start Visit and Bookmark this Site: SURVIVAL TOP 50 – A great resource that I still have saved to my desktop. Its crucial to spend some down time reviewing and taking notes from various websites. Downtime is at work (lol) while you are in the bathroom pooping. haha

OK- Next is to start figuring out your budget $$$ – Now we have all seen the “preppers episode where these folks spend every last dollar on prepping food and items. I would not suggest this. The GOAL, is to set aside some funds weekly, bi weekly or monthly for your hobby and your survival.

So we set some money aside but what do we do? How should we prepare? This part is the most important step. Find your “WHY” – Why are you going to spend your time and effort. You must find your WHY because when things get rough and hard your WHY will keep you going through the dark days. Your WHY is also the reason as to WHY you are preparing.

First and foremost you need to get your hygiene items in order:

Shampoo
Soap
Toothpaste
Comb/Brush
Clippers
Floss
Razors
Vitamins
Fish Antibiotics – In a grid down situation a healthy supply of these could save a life. Also get the Survival Medicine Handbook to know how to use them.
Hand Sanitizer – Also good for lighting fires
Sunscreen
Chap-stick
Feminine Products
Alcohol and Hydrogen Peroxide
Calamine Lotion – Benadryl
Children’s Fever Reducer
Neosporin or Fish Antibiotics
Plenty of bandages
Latex or Nitrile Gloves (these are cheap so buy two boxes)
Face-masks (regular and N95)

These are just a few and very easy on the budget. Start compiling these items monthly. I start by compiling my 5 Gal Bucket and if you need to visit that with the list CLICK HERE.

This is a quick video and a list to get your bucket together. This is step one.

Along the way, I will tell you what I started building up and why I slowly started to back track. In the early days prepping under a budget I bought a 5 or 10 lb package of rice, Beans and Franks by the can, and Roman Noodles. As I built this up, I found that if all life was cut out the Rice and Roman Noodles would take a lot of water to cook. So you need to plan for that.

In this Part 1, I want you to get the wheels spinning. Get your extra Hygiene and basic foods. Prepare an area of your house to store this inventory.

NOTE: As soon as you bring any items in the house document the expiration dates per items. This is great and at first I did not inventory my items. I had an AHA MOMENT when I figured if I did this for my job- Would my Job ask for an Inventory Sheet with Items and Expiration Date? Yes they would so why wouldn’t I!

This is just to get you started and the wheels spinning. Don’t wait for another tragedy. START NOW.

Email me with questions, leave comments and share.

Thanks,

Be Prepared, Don’t be a Looter

News crews caught looters looting up a storm in Florida over the weekend as Hurricane Irma wreaked havoc.
Dozens of looters were seen stealing essential items such as new pairs of Air Jordans and Nikes from Foot Locker in Miami. The looters loaded as many shoes as they possibly could into their cars to help them survive the storm.

Other looters were seen collecting essential supplies at CashAmerica and Pawn & Simon’s on West Sunrise Boulevard.u

You see the “WORLD” wants you to see a division with Race as white people speak on this they are deemed racist and bigots. The NeoCon’s want this and they are winning. We have had more division within these last 100 days its absolutely pitiful.

Coming from a survivalist standpoint and prepper. You should be prepared in the beginning. This is nothing but bullshit. Who knows what there intensions are and why they would need 5 pairs of sneakers.

When civilization’s break down they are broken in distinct apparent divisions these are the five steps: Society’s Collapse

  1. STAGE 1. The Decay Begins
  2. STAGE 2. The Slippery Slope
  3. STAGE 3. It is Going to Get Worse
  4. STAGE 4. The Grab for Power
  5. STAGE 5. Freedom, Liberty, and Independence are Lost

As you see, the actions above where stage 4 the worst a grab for power when members of society hit the stores. This was nothing more then folks being greedy. Every town, every city, every state has a percentage of criminals. Currently with the aftermath of Harvey and Irma we are starting to see the Decay (stage 1) in some areas, but there is good news. Many volunteers are headed that way to help out.

Try not to get beaten down with the negative news and the race bait. As a prepper and survivalist stay on your track and keep in the back of your mind what can happen. Don’t be unprepared!

What is a Prepper? and Why all the Hype?

The majority of my followers understand what a prepper is but there is the hand full that may read this as they stumble upon the site and move on without really knowing who we are and possibly why we do what we do.

Anyone who is anybody has seen at least previews of this show. My family thinks they are insane and always ask if I am that bad. Time will tell. Basically a “Prepper believes in taking steps to protect themselves and their family when SHTF (Shit Hits the Fan)  Protect themselves from what you ask? Depending on what site you visit, what television show you watch the reasoning for each individual prepper varies.

A couple reasons as to what folks are prepping for:

  1. Pandemic- (Ebola and others)
  2. Nuclear Reactor Meltdown
  3. Floods
  4. Tornadoes
  5. Hurricanes
  6. Drought
  7. Inclement Weather
  8. Fires and Wildfires
  9. Earthquake
  10. Economic Collapse – Fall of the dollar, Hyperinflation
  11. Solar Flare- EMP- Electronic Magnetic Pulse
  12. American Grids go down
  13. Cyber Attack and Terrorism
  14. Asteroid Impact
  15. Comet Collision
  16. Yellowstone Super Volcano
  17. New Madrid Earthquake
  18. Dirty Bomb
  19. Martial Law
  20. War World III, starts on our Soil

That is just 20 reasons some of us prepare for its easy for outsiders to look in, see the show, read a blog and move on laughing and poking fun, and that is how I used to be but slowly the more I read, the more research I come across in my opinion I don’t think we are that far off of something really bad happening. I don’t put my finances in danger by spending more than I should on prepping like a couple of folks on the TV show, I prep as I go little here little there, knowledge is key and I am always trying to learn something daily. It can be confusing because I run parallel prepping with survival skills. In my opinion the two are separate.

Prepper I defined as- Prepper believes in taking steps to protect themselves and their family when SHTF- stockpile enough goods to maintain current lifestyle.

prepper-pantry

Survivalist defined as- A Survivalist typically focuses on learning primitive and other woodsmen skills and have very little focus on actually stocking up supplies and building an extensive repository of every needful thing.  Whereas Survivalists prepare and learn to live off the land, Preppers prepare to maintain their current lifestyle as much as possible.

Prepping if your wanting to start or become one, keep in mind that it is a lifestyle and not a checkbox on a list. A prepper will never be done, never satisfied and never in their mind prepared for every event that is out there. Its fun and interesting the more you look into it. I encourage those who come across this article at least get a bug out bag together equipped with a first aid kit.

In closing, I believe this has gained momentum in the average folks because even with a 6% trust value of Mass Media we do see the Floods, and Natural Disasters destroying family’s, there is economically a lot of questions that cannot be answered. The Hype? I just think there is more people awake but scared to talk about it, we all know that Shit Will Hit The Fan Soon, unfortunately!

Good Luck and Cheers! Cardinal Prepper
