SHTF – Things we will loose

When SHTF for a Natural Disaster are you prepared to live without these items. Are your going to put your faith in the hands of the Government to help you out. I would but just like any business they are people and people can make mistakes. Lets look at Hurricane Katrina and the response from the government. They were so overwhelmed and not prepared themselves to respond to its citizens.

Katrina Timeline Click Here

Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Gulf Coast and generated a huge disaster. The storm flooded New Orleans, killed more than 1,800 people, and caused $100 billion in property damage. The storm’s damage was greatly exacerbated by the failures of Congress, the Bush administration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Army Corps of Engineers.

The Government was overwhelmed and under prepared. Even if you are in Chaos why would you turn away private help here is a list of help that was turned away in this event.

FEMA repeatedly blocked the delivery of emergency supplies ordered by the Methodist Hospital in New Orleans from its out-of-state headquarters.

FEMA turned away doctors volunteering their services at emergency facilities. Methodist’s sister hospital, Chalmette, for example, sent doctors to the emergency facility set up at New Orleans Airport to offer their services, but they were turned away because their names were not in a government database.

Private medical air transport companies played an important role in evacuations after Katrina. But FEMA officials provided no help in coordinating these services, and they actively blocked some of the flights.

FEMA “refused Amtrak’s offer to evacuate victims, and wouldn’t return calls from the American Bus Association.” Indeed, both the Motorcoach Association and the American Bus Association could not get through to anyone at FEMA to offer help for evacuations.

The Red Cross was denied access to the Superdome in New Orleans to deliver emergency supplies.

FEMA turned away trucks from Walmart loaded with water for New Orleans, and it prevented the Coast Guard from delivering diesel fuel.

Offers of emergency supplies, vehicles, and specialized equipment from other nations were caught in federal red tape and shipments were delayed.

So when a SHTF- Shit Hits The Fan- Natural Disaster happens in your neighborhood here is a list of things that you need to be ready for.

No Power, the Grid goes down?

If power goes out the American people have no faith in themselves. In a study 90% said that if the power goes out for two weeks they admit they would probably be dead. I believe they can go longer then that but in a time of crisis with everything that I am discussing comes at you, it fastly builds up and can be worrisome.

No Computers and No Internet?

Yes that means your Netflix and Hulu is down and also your Social Media Accounts. Everything we know is currently linked into the Web. Your bank accounts, the local grocery store with ordering items, gas pumps, store cashier and their systems virtually all that surrounds us is linked into the internet.

No Phones, Email or Social Media accounts?

Most of us have been deprogrammed in not needed friends and family phone numbers we just type up a name and hit send. Others that have family members abroad we have been so dependent on using Facebook to stay in touch. Well it could be gone. It would be good as I covered in our BOB items a list for contacts and information.

Building on Last Two Topics – Electronic Commerce is down?

We have become a paperless society and with that cash is on our little plastic cards and the system goes down. With it your banking and savings is not usable. Are you prepared?

Public Transport?

Gone, and if you have your own vehicle the roads will be covered with folks walking around like Zombies lost and confused.

Personal Transport?

Everyone of these builds on the other, if you don’t have a gas supply prepped in this event the pumps are down and you are limited within your first couple days stopping you from getting to your bug out location or GTFO to another state.

  1. Hi I’m a new prepper and I have many questions. Hoping you can help answer many questions.
Items to have on hand, stock piling of which items, small jobs to get more money to help prepare more and how much should I stockpile. Best sites and groups to join.
