HOW TO START PREPPING- PART 1

For many of us out there we have to be able to judge our current situation and what you can put forward into your new “hobby” I call it my hobby because I have so few and it allows me to redistribute some income into my new found fun. For me it was 2011, I just came back into town the night before from Canada and our Honeymoon. So hours later we just crossed the border back into the US. The news was on all day from the events and I needed to get gas immediately. I knew at that moment that I was not prepared. As life goes on, and a week or two go forward we get settled back into our daily rituals and we forget. That’s what I did. I forgot and continued forward. Hurrican IKE came through the US and the winds drilled Ohio. This was 11 years later and we were without power for 12 days. We still made it through but again I quit.

How many more global incidents will happen and you still will not begin. Well not today, today is Prepping 101 well kind of.

To Start Visit and Bookmark this Site: SURVIVAL TOP 50 – A great resource that I still have saved to my desktop. Its crucial to spend some down time reviewing and taking notes from various websites. Downtime is at work (lol) while you are in the bathroom pooping. haha

OK- Next is to start figuring out your budget $$$ – Now we have all seen the “preppers episode where these folks spend every last dollar on prepping food and items. I would not suggest this. The GOAL, is to set aside some funds weekly, bi weekly or monthly for your hobby and your survival.

So we set some money aside but what do we do? How should we prepare? This part is the most important step. Find your “WHY” – Why are you going to spend your time and effort. You must find your WHY because when things get rough and hard your WHY will keep you going through the dark days. Your WHY is also the reason as to WHY you are preparing.

First and foremost you need to get your hygiene items in order:

Shampoo
Soap
Toothpaste
Comb/Brush
Clippers
Floss
Razors
Vitamins
Fish Antibiotics – In a grid down situation a healthy supply of these could save a life. Also get the Survival Medicine Handbook to know how to use them.
Hand Sanitizer – Also good for lighting fires
Sunscreen
Chap-stick
Feminine Products
Alcohol and Hydrogen Peroxide
Calamine Lotion – Benadryl
Children’s Fever Reducer
Neosporin or Fish Antibiotics
Plenty of bandages
Latex or Nitrile Gloves (these are cheap so buy two boxes)
Face-masks (regular and N95)

These are just a few and very easy on the budget. Start compiling these items monthly. I start by compiling my 5 Gal Bucket and if you need to visit that with the list CLICK HERE.

This is a quick video and a list to get your bucket together. This is step one.

Along the way, I will tell you what I started building up and why I slowly started to back track. In the early days prepping under a budget I bought a 5 or 10 lb package of rice, Beans and Franks by the can, and Roman Noodles. As I built this up, I found that if all life was cut out the Rice and Roman Noodles would take a lot of water to cook. So you need to plan for that.

In this Part 1, I want you to get the wheels spinning. Get your extra Hygiene and basic foods. Prepare an area of your house to store this inventory.

NOTE: As soon as you bring any items in the house document the expiration dates per items. This is great and at first I did not inventory my items. I had an AHA MOMENT when I figured if I did this for my job- Would my Job ask for an Inventory Sheet with Items and Expiration Date? Yes they would so why wouldn’t I!

This is just to get you started and the wheels spinning. Don’t wait for another tragedy. START NOW.
